Who needs a B1 certificate in Polish
The certificate examination in Polish as a foreign language at level B1 is the most commonly chosen level among foreigners living in Poland. The reason is practical: this is the level named in the requirements of two of the most important administrative procedures.
How the B1 certificate examination works
The examination consists of five modules: listening comprehension, grammatical accuracy, reading comprehension, writing and speaking. The written and oral parts take place in centres authorised by the State Commission for the Certification of Proficiency in Polish as a Foreign Language, in sessions announced several months in advance.
The most common reason for failing is not a lack of vocabulary but the writing module: candidates lose points on grammatical accuracy and on the structure of their text. That is why on our course every grammar topic is immediately linked to a specific written form that appears in the exam.
How long B1 preparation takes
The course covers 60 teaching hours. At two lessons a week that is roughly seven months; at four lessons, about three and a half. The real timeline depends on your starting level: if you are beginning from scratch you will first need the A2 course and before that the A1 course. During the free trial lesson we check your level and tell you honestly how many hours really stand between you and the exam.
Who this course is for
We teach learners from all over the world. Many of our students are Russian-, Ukrainian- and Belarusian-speaking people living in Poland, as well as German speakers with family ties to Poland. Our teachers know the typical difficulties each of these groups faces — from so-called false friends to pronunciation errors caused by the closeness of the Slavic languages. Common questions about the B1 course
Are lessons held in person in Warsaw or another city?
No. Polski360 is an online-only school — we do not run in-person classes in any city. All lessons take place over the internet, on interactive Miro boards with audio and video. That means you can learn from Warsaw, Kraków, Wrocław, a smaller town, or from outside Poland — all you need is a computer and an internet connection.
I work shifts and my hours are irregular — can I manage?
Yes, and this is one of the reasons we teach exclusively online. In one-to-one and paired lessons you agree times directly with your teacher and can change them when your schedule changes — you are not tied to one fixed hour each week. We teach from morning until late evening, including weekends. If a week does not work out, you reschedule the lesson instead of losing it.
How much does the B1 Polish course cost?
It depends on the format. One-to-one costs 880 zł per month, which is 6600 zł for the full 60-hour course. In a pair it is 720 zł per month per person, so 5400 zł per person. The price for paired lessons is given per participant. Both formats include materials, and payment is spread across months.
How long does the B1 certificate course take?
The course covers 60 teaching hours. At 2 lessons per week that is roughly 7 months; at 4 lessons, about 3.5 months. Use the calculator above to check the pace for your exam date.
Do you help with registering for the certificate exam?
Yes. We advise which examination centre and session to choose and help you complete the registration formalities. The fee for the state examination itself is not included in the course price.
Do I need to have completed level A2?
You do not need a certificate from a lower level, but material from A1 and A2 is also tested in the B1 exam. During the free trial lesson we check whether you can start at B1 or whether it is worth filling in the earlier levels first.
Are materials included in the price?
Yes, all materials are included in the course price regardless of the format you choose. You do not buy any textbooks separately, and access to the materials on the Miro boards stays with you after the course ends.
