It is to pronounce them correctly from the start and build sentences on the right pattern \u2014 because mistakes that set in during the first weeks come back for years. The most common example is the letter \u0141, which English speakers often read as an English \u201el&#8221; when it actually sounds like \u201ew&#8221; in \u201ewater&#8221;. Corrected at the start, this takes a few lessons.<\/p>\n<h3>How many words are enough to start speaking<\/h3>\n<p>Fewer than you think. For simple conversations in a shop, at the doctor or with family, a few hundred words are enough \u2014 provided you can decline them and fit them into a sentence. That is why our A1 programme is not a vocabulary list: every block of vocabulary is tied immediately to a grammatical structure and practised in dialogue.<\/p>\n<h3>The seven cases are less alien than they look<\/h3>\n<p>Polish declension looks intimidating to English speakers because English lost most of its case endings centuries ago \u2014 but you already use them without noticing: \u201ehe&#8221; versus \u201ehim&#8221;, \u201ewho&#8221; versus \u201ewhom&#8221;. Polish simply does this for every noun and adjective.
